The Beginning of Konbit Restaurant

 Located at 572 Klockner Rd, Konbit Restaurant is housed in a historic brick building dating back to 1978. The space was once home to the beloved Mama Rosa’s Restaurant, famous for its tomato pies, and over the years welcomed several different dining concepts, most recently a Hispanic restaurant and grill.

 In June 2024, Konbit Restaurant brought new life to the space with a vision rooted in authentic Haitian cuisine, culture, and tradition. Known for warm hospitality and exceptional service, Konbit proudly stays true to the rich flavors of Haiti while highlighting fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the beautiful Garden State of New Jersey.

Our unique name comes from the Haitian countryside, where a “Konbit” (originally “Kombit”) is a cherished tradition that still lives on today. A konbit is when farmers and neighbors come together to work each other’s land, sharing the labor, the music, the laughter, and most importantly, the meal afterward.

Our grandmother, Madame Moise — lovingly known as Man Moy — has always embodied that spirit of togetherness. She would gather the community through Haitian music, storytelling, and incredible food. After long hours in the fields, everyone would sit around tables filled with dishes prepared from the freshest ingredients harvested that very day. The air would fill with the aroma of herbs, epis, slow-cooked meats, and vibrant produce as meals were prepared with care and shared with pride.

That experience is the soul of Konbit Restaurant.

Every plate we serve is inspired by that living tradition of generosity, bold flavor, and community. From rich Haitian spices to fresh local ingredients, our food is meant to be savored slowly, shared freely, and remembered long after the last bite.
